Jewelry Trends!

Some people say it's not about what you wear, but rather, how you accessorize. The hottest ticket item in our store is always jewelry, and with our awesome mix of consignors, we always have an eclectic mix.

Jewelry should always be fun!  It's a great way to show your personality, and a small piece can make a big statement. There are no rules, but like every other aspect of fashion, it has its own trends! Of course, Our Friends' Closet is here to keep you on trend.

Arm Candy: Bracelet stacking

Bracelet stacking is one of the easiest and most misunderstood jewelry trends. I have heard many people say they can't make a pretty stack. The important thing to remember is to keep it balanced. Don't wear all large bangles, but also don't wear too many thin bracelets. You want to have a mix of wide bracelets and skinny bracelets. Mix stones with plain metal bracelets. Mix bangles with stretch bracelets. Mix multiple colors. Don't be afraid to mix metals. A recent trend is mixing gold and silver together!

Statement Necklaces

My personal favorite trend is statement necklaces! They cover a large area (if your not comfortable showing skin) and comes in an array of fun colors. You can find them in plain metal, with rhinestones, or with fun stones. The make a huge impact, with minimal effort and can instantly make a simple outfit more interesting!

Layering

Much like bracelet stacking, its also trendy to stack or layer necklaces. One piece is interesting, but two pieces is even more interesting. Pile on as many as you want, but remember, the more details you have and the more you add, the harder they will be to see. You want your best pieces to stand out.

Gold!!

Silver has been all the rage for a while now, but gold is BACK! Gold is often associated with the 80s, but not anymore! Gold is back in full force! Not only is gold a must have now, rose gold is just as in demand.

Chains

Another trend back from the 80s is big chains. Keep this look updated by incorporating other aspects like rope or leather. Also keep the look updated by not going to large with the chains. You want to keep it in the middle, not too large, not too small.

Crystal Clear

Crystals are going to be a major trend in the coming months of 2014. Combine multiple trends by wearing a stack of crystal clear bracelets.

Lilly Pulitzer!

Here in the South, when someone mentions spring, most fashionistas automatically think LILLY PULITZER! And rightly so. Lilly's designs are fun, bright, and easy to wear! But, what most people don't know is that Lilly didn't intend to become a fashion designer or to be in women's closets everywhere!

Lilly and her husband, Peter, decided to make a life for themselves in Palm Beach, FL. Peter owned orange groves, and Lilly decided to open a juice stand.

While working her juice stand, Lilly's clothing would become stained with the juice that she was making. In order to hide the stains, Lilly began making clothing for herself in bright colors and patterns.

Customers started asking about the dresses Lilly would wear to work, so she decided to make a few to sell at her stand. She soon realized she was making more dresses than juice, and a fashion lifestyle brand was born!

Lilly Pulitzer has now became almost synonymous with southern living, and the southern lifestyle. Her clothing is perfect for any summer occasion, and Our Friends' Closet is here to outfit you in Lilly at a fraction of the cost!

Spring Transition

Lilly's prints are bright and fun for summer, but you can also make them work on a chilly Spring day! Throw on a pair of her pants or capris, and pair it with a 3/4 or long sleeve top and a bright scarf. Don't worry about matching the colors exactly, being in the same color family works.

With their patterns and colors, not much jewelry is needed; These dresses stand out all on their own!

Lilly items are also great for a casual spring day! The bright fun prints will put a smile on anyone's face. A key part of wearing Lilly Pulitzer is to not over do it with her prints. They stand out on their own and create a statement. Wearing more than one of standout prints at a time will be overwhelming. Instead, pair a great print with a similarly colored plain piece.

Modern Vintage

Modern Vintage is taking a vintage look, and making it suitable for the 21st century. It's bohemian, it's a vintage feel in a modern silhouette, it's fabulous!

Our Friends' Closet and Uptown Kids are teaming up to put on one fabulous event where moms and children can shop in one place!

Do you have any Anthropologie brands in your closet your not wearing? Are you a lover of Boden and ready to trade up some of your items? Feel like making some money with them? Bring them to our Modern Vintage sale, and get 70% of the selling price!!

For all the information on the event click the link below!

Here is a few ideas of what you might see at our event!

Earrings- $6.00- 20% off!!
Silpada Necklace- $95- 40% off!!
Field Flower Top- Small- $19
Boden Jeans - 4 -$29

For the first look we went with a mustard yellow color scheme. Too me, mustard is a vintage looking color. It's toned down, but still modern, especially when on a pair of jeans!

Necklace- $10
Bracelet- $9
Guinevere Shrug- Medium- $26
Boden Shirt- 8- $18
Boden Skirt- 8- $24

Modern Vintage is also about mixing bright colors. Try not to mix too many prints together as bright colors and heavy prints can be too much. Here we took it simple with a jean skirt, a printed shirt, and a simple yellow cardigan.

Boden Dress- small
Necklace- $7

This dress screams Modern Vintage with its floral print and bright color scheme. Another trade mark of Modern Vintage is mixing patterns. Again, doing it to much might make you look a little to childish, but this Boden dress does it perfectly with the contrast collar detailing.

Maeve Dress- 8- $39
Premier Designs Necklace- $34
Kate Spade Straw Bag- $79
This Maeve dress, an Anthropologie brand, has a vintage silhouette with the nipped waist, fuller skirt, and cap sleeves. This dress is extremely versatile and can be worn in fall with boots, tights, and a cardigan over top. To keep the look Spring ready, we paired it with a brushed gold Premier Designs necklace, and a straw bag. This look is officially picnic ready!

Kate Spade Straw Bag- $79

Think Modern Vintage isn't you style?

Free People Top- small- $26
DL 1969 Jeans- 25/0- $59
Necklace- $10

Modern Vintage brands also make clothes that are more toned down. You don't have to love patterns to be part of this sale! This top is made by one of our featured brands, Free People! Free people is a risqué brand, so be daring and wear just a brightly colored bra underneath.

The Modern Vintage sale will also be featuring clothes from some of your favorite children's brands like Matilda Jane, Baby Boden and local brand Muchilunga.

Muchilunga

Cheeky Banana

Tea

Young Colors

Join us for this great event next week! Drop off days are March 2-4 and shopping days are March 7-9! Don't forget the event will be held in a separate location in the same shopping center. It will be in the space next to Big Apple Bagels. We look forward to seeing you at this event!

Spring Trends!!

We're all dreaming of Spring, but is your wardrobe prepared for it? Do you know what the trends are for this Spring? Don't worry, as always, Our Friends' Closet is here to help keep you looking fashionable!

.
Diane Von Furstenberg Tunic ~ Size 8~ $59
Lilly Pulitzer Skirt ~ Size 6 ~ $28
Turquoise necklace~ $39

Pastels
Most people automatically associate pastels with spring, but this year, expect them to be even more common, and probably to last even past Easter! Pastels were seen all over the Spring runways, in an array of fabrics and cuts. Here at OFC were keeping it traditional in everyone's favorite Spring lady, Lilly Pulitzer! Add on a Diane Von Furstenberg top and you can't go wrong! So light and airy!

NEW Talbots coat ~ size 12 ~ $49
Jennie and Marlis top ~ size L ~ $9
Talbots denim Capris ~ Size 14 ~ $20
J crew Necklace ~ $30

Collarless Coat
Our second trend is the collarless coat! This coat can be dressed up, dressed down, and worn anywhere this Spring! This one happens to be a very sophisticated style, but if your a little more on the wild side, pair it with funkier prints!

Candies blazer ~ SOLD
Ya Los Angeles Tank ~ SOLD
Sara Campbell Skirt ~ size 6 ~ $16
Chicos Bangles ~ $12

Black and White and Stripes
Unlike pastels, black and white are not usually thought of as Spring colors. However, for the last few years they have been huge for Spring! 2014 is no exception! Keep this look trendy by only wearing black and white, pops of color are great, but this look is all about black and white. We decided to double up on the trends with this look, because again, stripes are big for spring! This year its a little different though; we are seeing different size stripes mixed as well as wearing two striped pieces with different orientations!

Edme & Esyllte top ~ size small~ $24
Audra pants ~ Size 2p~ $16
Necklace ~ $12

Wide Leg Pants
Are you a person who feels they can't pull off skinny jeans? Well good news, wide leg pants are back! Wear them higher on the waist and extending straight down (no flare!). This will give you an elongated look to the leg and hey, who doesn't want longer legs?

Talbots top ~ size Xs~ $17
Ann Taylor Skirt ~ size 4~ $16
Anchor Earrings ~ $7

Boxy Silhouette
Another big trend this season is boxy! The boxy silhouette is being seen everywhere from crop tops to jackets! The key to this look is to get your normal size. The designers have cut the fabric so that it will be just boxy enough on your frame. Going to large means you'll be swimming (and will look too large). Trying to go smaller to make it more fitted will just give you an awkward look, as the design is not cut to be fitted. Likewise, don't try to get a fitted top in larger size for this trend, it will just look too big.

A couple of bonus trends for you:
 Nautical
we have many anchor earrings as picture above in many sizes and styles

Tea Length skirts-
They hit just above the ankle and look very lady like

Pointed Toe Flats
Especially d'orsay flats (the back of the shoe resembles a d'orsay fin)

**For all you Anthropologie lovers: We're all anxiously awaiting the new North Hills location, but did you know that you can buy Anthropologie brands at up to 1/3 of retail!? You can also consign your old Anthropologie brands and get credit to buy new ones! Interested in finding out more? Simply click the link below for all the information!

Easy Outfits FEATURING Designer Denim!!

We all have mornings where we are running close on time and don't have time to think about what we are going to wear for the day. I had that morning today, and that spurred the inspiration for this blog post!

Every woman should have a fall back outfit. Something that you can wear when your not feeling your best, or when you just don't have time to actually put something together.

One common thread for this post is the Designer Denim we have in the store. buying high end denim may not seem like it's worth it, but if your a denim lover, its totally worth it. High end denim will normally be a higher quality denim and will also be cut better to better fit you. Of course finding the perfect brand of high end denim that fits your body is important. All brands will have different styles that will fit differently, but most brands stick to the same cutting and fitting methods.
My personal favorite quick outfit is a basic top, a great pair of jeans and a scarf.

Talbots top ~ Size Large Petite ~ $14
Silver Jeans ~ 31/12 ~ $59
Scarf ~ $15
Earrings ~ $6

Putting on a scarf instantly makes me feel put together. When wearing a scarf, not many other accessories are necessary. I always wear earrings (as taught by my mother) and usually a simple watch or bracelet.

Coldwater Creek Cardigan ~ Size Small ~$18
NEW Max  Studio Tank ~ Size Small ~ $18
Paige Jeans ~ Size 26/2 ~ $59 (20% off!)

Another favorite of mine is wearing something with sequins. Sequins lift my mood and make me feel dressier than I really am. No worries, wearing sequins casually is totally acceptable!

Levi's Shirt ~ Size Medium ~ $14
7 for all mankind Jeans ~ size 30/10~ $59 (60% off!)
Button downs are a trend for this Spring. Grab one and your favorite pair of jeans, add a simple necklace and your done! If you want to be even more trendy, pop open a few extra buttons and be a little risky!

Talbots Sweater ~ Size P ~ $20
True Religion Jeans $59

These True Religion jeans are a standout on their own! True Religion is known for their extra bold, contrast stitching. With such detailed jeans, pair it with a simple top. Tuck in just a little bit of the front of the sweater to be ultra trendy.

 Chicos Zenergy top ~ Size 0 ~ $16
Ea rnest Sewn Jeans ~ size 28/6 ~ $59 (60% off!)
Nine West Shoes ~ Size 6.~ $26
If your like me and your not into the skinny jean craze, go the opposite and try a pair of boyfriend jeans. They may be slouchy, but that doesn't mean they can't be chic. Balance the slouch with a fitted Tee. Cuff the bottoms of the jeans and throw on a pair of colorful heels. Instantly chic!

JEANS 101:
When you pay a lot for your denim (and even when you don't) you want to take care of them so they last!

TIP 1: Only wash them when you HAVE too. There is no need to wash your jeans after every wear unless there are visible stains, or if they have lost their shape. Some believe that putting jeans in the freezer will kill the bacteria (odor) and give them back their original shape.

TIP 2: Wash in cold water on the gentlest cycle. If jeans are new, and have excess dye in them, this dye can transfer to other things like purse and shoes. To get rid of this, wash your jeans in a mixture of cold water, white vinegar and salt. Soak first.

TIP 3: NEVER DRY JEANS IN THE DRYER! Most jeans now have spandex or lycra in them which gives them their comfortable stretch. The heat from the dryer will break down the spandex in the jeans causing them to stretch out and lose shape quickly.  Hang or lay flat to dry. Don't worry if they feel stiff after air drying, once you have them on you won't even notice it.

If only do one thing to save your jeans, keep them out of the dryer!
