What's Old Is New Again!

                Two things can always be counted on to repeat, history and fashion. While the repetition of fashion isn’t always a beautiful thing (hello acid washed jeans!), this fall it is!

                In 1947 postwar Paris Christian Dior launched his first ever fashion line. He called the look corolla, after the folds of a flower, or figure 8, the number mimicked in his silhouette. The look quickly became publicly known as the New Look and Christian Dior became a household name.

                Dior’s New Look was a stark contrast to the military styles of the day with its rounded shoulders, cinched waist, and flared skirt. It also contradicted the strict rationings of the recently ended world war with the skirt containing 20 yards of fabric.

                This beautiful look is still very fashionable, with the flared skirt making a special come back this fall. Luckily for us women the flared skirt is universally flattering when paired with a streamlined simple top. Wearing a belt can help accentuate the nipped in waist and really create that figure 8 Dior intended. If your top is too blousy, you will only be making yourself look larger than you actually are.

                The look can be kept classic and simple with a neutral skirt and top. Pops of color can easily be added with accessories. For those who are even more adventurous, try a flared skirt in a bright color, or a bold pattern. To winterize this look simply add fleece lined tights and boots.

To make this look ultra trendy, add on multiple trends on top of the flared skirt. Lace is still on trend for fall 2013, as well as embellishments. Metallics might have once been considered trend, but are now a classic for any wardrobe.
